Lizard Man, Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach, CA: September 5, 2009

Beautiful sunny day. Laguna Beach is in Orange County, California, just south of Los Angeles. Many of you know that Orange County is home to the Disneyland Resort. We stayed at the Anaheim Hilton, across the street from Disney. Great room for $89: top floor on the corner over looking Disney. We had a perfect view of the fireworks on Saturday night. Didn’t go to the theme parks, but we had dinner twice at Downtown Disney. The Disney Grand California Hotel has a restaurant called Napa Rose, which our friend Larry McCauley recommended. It was a little more casual and noisy than we expected, but good wine and food, and free parking for 5 hours. I expected them to charge me $10 for valet parking, but it was free.

You may have heard that there was a major forest fire in Los Angeles, north near Pasadena and Santa Clarita. Some residents told us that the air quality had been awful all over the Los Angeles basin earlier in the week but had cleared up nicely for the long weekend.

The middle photo shows a local resident who has embraced his disability with humor looking at the beach from one of many vantage points. Notice the sculpture on the bench, highlighted on the left? Looks like two men holding the boards up.
